Spotify’s car mode is a feature that allows you to tailor your app experience for your car. However, don't confuse it with Spotify's Car Thing, which is a physical device that Spotify has canned, not a feature. When you enable this feature on Spotify, the app automatically switches to car mode when you get in your car while streaming—as long as your Bluetooth is connected.

That means you don’t have to enable it each time you start commuting. But it has a more significant benefit: keeping you (and others) safe on the road.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nine people are killed daily in crashes involving distracted drivers in the US. But texting isn’t the sole cause of distractions on the road; using your phone for anything, including managing your music streaming, can also lead to car accidents.

Using Spotify’s car mode won’t prevent that completely. However, it’ll reduce the time spent fiddling with the app.

How to Use Spotify’s Car Mode

As previously mentioned, all you need to do to start using Spotify’s car mode is enable it in the app. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Spotify app on your phone.
  2. Tap the Settings icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. On the Settings page, tap Car and toggle Car Mode on.

Car mode shows you larger icons in the player, like the play/pause button, the skip button, and more. You can swipe up or tap Quick Play from the bottom of the screen to get a quick view of more songs in the lineup.

Car mode streamlines the music player so that you can manage your streaming experience more easily for your convenience. The whole idea is to limit the amount of time you spend interacting with the app so that you can focus on the road.

With that said, if you're a passenger, you can turn off car mode by tapping the car icon with a line through it in the top-right corner of the screen. Likewise, you can completely disable car mode by following the same steps listed above and toggling the setting off.

Limit Distractions on the Road With Spotify’s Car Mode

We know how relaxing it is to stream music while driving, but that comes with the responsibility of limiting distractions. Use Spotify’s car mode to avoid spending too much time interacting with the Spotify app during your commute. And above all else, avoid using your phone while driving. It can save you and the life of others.
