There is this line at the bottom of giveaway pages at MakeUseOf: "Individuals who reside in a country embargoed by the United States, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, or India are not permitted to enter." What does that mean?

What have the residents of Belgium, Norway, Sweden and India done to you or the US that they're "exempt" from participating. There *is no* software export control restriction from the US to these countries (unlike say, to Iran, North Korea, etc.).

Actually, there was an embargo placed on India by US based on the nuclear program which India was/is pursuing. Anyways, according to a report on 26-jan-2011 U.S decided to pull this off of India and still MUO ppl aint aware of this, I believe. ;)Here is the link to that report >> http://www.fastcompany.com/1720927/ifive-microsofts-finances-us-ends-india-embargo-facebooks-groupon-twitters-ads-expand-daily-

Vishnu,MUO has to follow Facebook regulations. The exclusion from the contest may have other reasons than political. Maybe the laws in India and the fact that the contest is advertised on Facebook has something to do with it.

Hi Osama,It means that the residents of the countries that are currently placed under the US embargo are not permitted to participate in the giveaway because we will not be able to send the prize. Also residents of Belgium, Norway, Sweden, or India are exempt from participating.

The quote above is not a direct one.The text actually says "Individuals who reside in Belgium, Norway, Sweden, India or any country embargoed by the United States are not permitted to enter."This can be read as though Belgium, Norway, Sweden and India are all under US embargo, which of course they aren't :)
