When you hear the word Dyson, you probably think of a lineup of powerful floor vacuums, fans, and dryers. But the company is turning its eye toward the future where robots might play a bigger role in household chores.

Dyson Showcases Prototype Robots Doing Household Chores

In a Dyson blog post, the company is showing some of its secret prototypes as it opens up a search for robotics engineers to help make the future happen.

Some prototypes shown by the company include a robot vacuuming an armchair and another handling plates in the kitchen and lifting a teddy bear from the floor.

According to The Guardian, Dyson wants to produce robots capable of household chores by 2030.

Dyson timed the look at the prototypes to coincide with the International Conference on Robotics and Automation in Philadelphia.

The company has already added 2,000 new employees this year. Of those, 50 percent are engineers, scientists, and coders. Dyson has already hired 250 robotics engineers and is planning to add 700 more over the next five years.

New employees will be based in Hullavington Airfield in Wiltshire in the United Kingdom. The company is planning to spend almost $3.5 billion on new technologies, products, and facilities. And Dyson is very familiar with robot technology in the home. The company unveiled its first robot vacuum, the DC06, 20 years ago.

The efforts are being led by Dyson’s Chief Engineer Jake Dyson. He’s the son of company founder James Dyson.

Are Home Chore Robots Our Future?

Everyone is probably familiar with robot vacuums that make cleaning our floors so much easier. But it will be interesting to see if Dyson’s big bet can become fruitful and produce robots that are capable of doing much more in the home.
