Hello, can you explain a little bit more about your system? you could try the settings posted in the virtualbox.org forum by user birdie. It should be the 6th answer. Create the virtual space but do not install the operating system yet. Match your settings with the ones the poster uses:https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?p=200748or, follow the instructions in the next link. It should guide you step by step on what to do and how to set it. First of all make sure that your system fulfills at least the minimum requirements:http://dottech.org/tipsntricks/23645/how-to-install-windows-8-on-virtualbox/

Hi Bob,You're probably trying to install the wrong build. Is your processor 64bit compatible? If so, you can use x64, otherwise stick to x86. The default download choice is 64bit, even though your processor may not be compatible with a 64bit OS.
Download
the x86 version (

). Also, are you burning the image to a CD and installing it via virtualbox, or installing the virtual machine directly from the image? - Jeff
