I have 289GB out of 580GB. I was wondering why there is so little left. I had two accounts and deleted one but that didn't help.

So I was wondering how can I get rid of all this stuff? Also, is a drive wiper for free space good?

Hello, make sure to remove your temporary files, temp files and internet temporary files, they can occupy a lot of space in your drive.  It is done by default by it takes a few days for it to happen.  Set for them to be cleaned often.  To have a better idea of what is using your drive's space, you could use the following:DiskView:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/bb896650DiskUsage:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/bb896651Treesize Free:http://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/

You can visually check the partition status by going to Start, right-click on Computer and select Manage.  In the left-hand column, select Disk Management.  It may take a few moments for it to query the system and display all drives attached to the system.  Depending on your system, you may see a partition (or two) here that do not have drive letters.  These are normally a small 100MB partition used when multibooting and a larger one up to about 10GB that is used as a hidden recovery partition.  Many people find it easier to "see" this data as shown here rather than what you get from the command line with diskpart.Befor adjusting your max usage values for System Restore, you should find out how many restore points you currently have and use that as a guide for the reduction instead of making a blind adjustment.  You probably want to make sure there is enough space for at least 3 restore points which can be done with some basic math first. If you are using Media Center to record television programs, that may be where most of your space has gone since a single 1 hour episode will consume approximately 8GB of space. To find the space hogs on your system, you can also use tools such as TreeSize Free from www.jam-software.com (I think it can be found at download.com as well) which will show you the folders that consume the most space and you can drill down into the subfolders to isolate them and decide if they are worth keeping or not.

perhaps another partition is there and you do not see it? assign a drive letter to the drive for win 7 to recognize the unused partition, to do this right clikc my computer select "manage" then bottom left is "disk management" , assign a drive letter and reboot pc.1)Open a command window with administrative privileges. Then type diskpart.2)type list disk to identify your harddisk by its number 3)Type select disk 0.(assuming it's 0, )4)Type list partition and select the D: drive by typing select partition 1 (if it is).5)Now type extend filesystem: this checks the size of the partition, and match the size of the NTFS filesystem to it.6)After finish type exitalso perhaps windows 7 is using alot of space for restore points?1) Open the Start Menu2)Right click on the Computer button and click on Properties3)Click on the  hard disk drive or partition, that you want to change the System Protection disk space usage for, to select it. 4)Click on the Configure button5)Adjust the Max Usage slider6)Click OK
