Hello, I bought 3 used 100Gb Seagate momentus drives. All work fine on internal SATA in my PC.

I had one old USB to SATA external enclosure, but HDD's didn't work. Went on Aria PC and bought

one CIT and one Dynamode enclosure.

HDDs stil don't work - no drive works in in any enclosure.

How should I format an HDD to go into an external case? I tried NTFS and FAT 32 and exFAT and put

MBR on with Testdisk software.

Any help appreciated.

try to use double-headed USB cable for additional power? There is a limit of how much power a single USB port can provide. 100 mA for USB up to 2.0 and 150 mA for USB 3.0.

That is not entirely correct. Each USB Host Controller has a limit on power it can supply:5 units each 100 mA for USB up to 2.0 = 500 mA max.6 units each 150 mA for USB 3.0 = 900 mA max. Each USB Host controller is usually handling multiple USB ports on your computer. Therefor the units (or max. power) is shared across multiple USB ports.

Since the drive appears to be working fine internal I guess it's an issue with it's controllers automatic power or acoustic management.Connect the drives to your computer internal and use a hard drive tool to deactivate/disable AAM/APM. If you don't have a tool you can use e.g. CrystalDiskInfo or HDD Scanhttp://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html* Functions > Advanced Features > AAM/APM controlhttp://hddscan.com/* New Task > Features > IDE featuresOnce the drives are working I would set the APM to 128 (80h).
