I have a Microsoft Office 2010 Tech Preview install on my laptop. My mum has created a word document on it. For some strange reason, when you open it in Office 2007, it loses all of its formatting including images, and title pages etc. and opens the file in Draft view.

My question is, how do I change this, so it can open in print view. I want to get the document back to normal and compatible with Office 2007.

The document opens fine in Office 2010, but not in 2007. Does anyone know a fix to this solution, or has this happened to you before?

I am aware of the compatibility issue with 2003 and 2007, but I didn't think there was one with 2010 and 2007.

Well, I have converted it to that 97-2003.doc version and it has the save version as it cannot view in Print Layout form - only in drafts. Plus, in doing so, I will lose my auto fields such as bibliography etc.As far as I am aware, 2010 and 2007 should have any compatibility issues, and less there is an issue with the Tech Preview of 2010, which will probably be much likely. However, someone said not to use 2010 as other numerous people are having this problem opening it up in 2007 or 2003.

Yes, you can simply save your documents as 03-07 .doc files and they can be read in any version of Word. Also, there is probably a patch you can download so you can read newer .docx files, so you might want to search for that.

I haven't used Office 2010, but when you save it, it's probably saving as .docx. If you use the dropdown menu to save it as plain .doc, it should be compatible with everything from 2000 to current and even other office suites like OpenOffice.

Yes, there is a compatibility issue between 2010 and 2007. There's a Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint File Formats that you can download from www.microsoft.com.

Hi Serrioal, thanks for the link, but that is not the one I am after. That basically allows Office 2003 to open .docx files. My problem is that I can't open at Office 2010 Tech Preview .docx file on Office 2007
