I was thinking if there was a video section in the MakeUseOf website on product reviews and comparative analysis between Gadgets or OS, it will be great. Example,

iPad 4 vs. iPad 3 Speed Test

Google Nexus 4 vs Apple iPhone 5

Google Nexus 4 vs Samsung Galaxy S III

iPhone 5 vs. Galaxy S III

iPhone 5 vs. Nexus 4

iOS 6 vs. Jelly Bean

Google Nexus 10 vs Google Nexus 7

iPad Mini vs. Nexus 7

Google Nexus 10 vs Apple iPad 4

Windows Surface RT vs. iPad feature-by-feature

MAKEUSEOF VIDEO OF THE DAY
SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT

There can also be standalone gadget reviews. I think this can very very useful for us users, and help us make the correct choice much better. Posting as I want other MakeUseOf readers opinion also on this suggestion.

100% yes. A video section that not only does comparisons of products but shows products in use would set MUO apart from other sites. A brilliant idea!

Hell yes, i mean there must be video for almost every article written on MUO. It could be a review video or a how-to instruction video....Even i could do that stuff for MUO!

You could make a video section with entries from both staff and users. The subjects of videos could be HowTos, Site and Software Expositions and even Funny IT riffs. A point system could rank videos for user submissions.

As long as the speed of video streaming is as fast as those on YouTube, it would be a great idea; however, a channel on youtube could also save some bandwidth on Makeuseof.

Yes, we should, and I've been pushing for one for a while now, but it's not on the immediate to-do list I'm afraid.

Thanks a ton for the response. Good to know that at-least it is under consideration, albeit for the future.

I suggest posting some IT tips in video format. this do requires a bit more resources, from servers to video cameras, video editors. but do helps users. Hope they add a section if they can afford

I agree but the regular tutorials are so well done that no video is needed.

A classic example would be the points system, either do away with them or fix them so they are fair!I have posted many times this week with points stagnated!

No game system is ever perfect, but the comment system is better now. You don't simply get points for posting comments - only for posting things which other users find useful, or enjoy. If it's a good comment, people will like it.

If I get you right, you mean I can post a comment but as long as no one has liked it I don't get any point? Hum... it's good only if people are taking the time to read your comment. But have you noticed that people don't just read others comments? I have seen this because sometime there will be someone giving the exact answer as other people and also even when the person who has asked a question has said that he got his problem solved still you will see people commenting and giving suggestions...sometime the same as previous or just "crap". I have seen this situation many times and just understood that most people are not reading others comments. So if our reward will come ONLY from them, we're in trouble...

And also how do I know who liked my comment? Is there a notification system for when someone liked my comment? I hope so.

Yeps, I 100% agree to this idea. great suggestion. Bring up a MakeUseOf YouTube Channel and have a hyperlink to the main MakeUseOf website. Would not then have to the headache of extra coding and stuff as the framework is already existing. Lot of established IT companies and tech forums follow this method.

We kind of already have a youtube channel, but its not used. I've begun posting more videos - like in the Surface RT review I did - but those have been uploaded to my own personal channel. There's a lot more to launching a video section than simply making videos (which is difficult in and of itself to do professionally). We'd need a new editor for instance, a new part of the site to be coded, and without lots of regular content it would be useless, so then we'd need to ensure authors are making videos. And of course, a lot of the authors can't do that, so ... (yeh... its not so simple)

Sorry i made it hear so simple being a non-technical person. Obviously you guys would know much better about it. Thanks for making it clear. Merry Christmas in advance. :)
