Disney+ may be in its infancy when compared to giants like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, but it's quickly become one of the best streaming services. That's not only because it's packed full of exciting movies and shows, but because it offers loads of handy features that enhance your streaming experience.

Whether it's the ability to stream in IMAX Enhanced resolution, host a virtual watch party with friends, or download content for offline viewing, we've rounded up the best Disney+ tips and tricks to get the most from the service.

1. Host a Watch Party With GroupWatch

It's hard to get everyone together in the same room to watch something. That's why you should host a Disney+ watch party using the built-in GroupWatch functionality. The main limitation is that everyone involved needs a Disney+ subscription.

Up to seven people can join a GroupWatch, which allows you to watch anything on Disney+ simultaneously as a group. If someone pauses the stream, it pauses for everyone. You can also send emoji reactions.

To begin a GroupWatch, go to what you want to watch and select the GroupWatch button (it looks like three figures). From there, you get a link to send to your friends, then press Start Stream when you've got the popcorn ready.

2. Disable Autoplay

One of the most annoying features on every streaming service is autoplay. This is when your movie or TV show ends and it automatically starts playing something else. Thankfully, you can disable autoplay on Disney+.

To do so, go to your profile, select Edit Profiles, choose your profile, and then toggle Autoplay off. Here you can also disable background video, which is when trailers play automatically while browsing Disney+.

3. Build a Watchlist

Disney+ constantly adds new content and it can be hard to keep track of everything you want to watch. To overcome this, use the watchlist functionality, which is a list of everything you've registered interest in.

To add something to your watchlist, navigate to the movie or TV show's overview page and select the plus icon. To view what you've saved, select Watchlist from the main menu.

4. Watch Deleted Scenes, Bloopers, and Other Bonus Content

Do you miss the bonus features that you would often find on DVD and Blu-ray releases? With Disney+, you don't have to miss out on deleted scenes, bloopers, behind-the-scenes documentaries, and other extra content. On a TV or movie's overview page, you'll find it on the Extras tab.

5. Discover Content Through Curated Collections

If you're struggling to decide what to watch, you should make use of Disney+'s collections. These are groups of movies or shows based around a particular theme, holiday, or brand, like "Female Leads", "Halloween", and "The Muppets".

To find these, select Search and then select All Collections. From here, you're sure to find something worthy of your time.

6. Download for Offline Playback

If you're traveling or live in an area with a spotty connection, it's not always possible to maintain an internet connection while streaming. To overcome this, you can download movies and shows for offline playback on Disney+ when using a phone or tablet.

To download a movie, navigate to its overview page and tap Download. For a TV show, scroll down to the Episodes. To download the entire season, tap the download icon next to Season. To grab an individual episode, tap the download icon next to it.

Then, to view your downloads, tap the persistent download icon from the bottom menu. You can also change the download quality and storage location in the app settings.

7. Customize Subtitle Appearance

Enabling subtitles on Disney+ is very handy, especially for accessibility purposes. To make them clearer for you, you can customize their appearance.

To do this on a device like a computer, pause what you're watching and select the subtitles icon, then select the cog icon. You can change the font, color, opacity, size, and more. On other devices, like Android, iOS, and game consoles, go to the accessibility section of the device rather than Disney+.

8. Watch in IMAX Enhanced Format

You can watch some Disney+ content in an IMAX Enhanced format. This is an expanded 1.90:1 resolution, meaning you see up to 26% more of the original image. Only some movies on Disney+ support this feature. When you play them, they should use IMAX Enhanced by default, no matter your device. But you can switch between versions at any time via the Versions tab.

9. Share Your Membership

You can have seven individual profiles on one Disney+ account. Each profile has its own watchlist, recommendations, and preferences. This is great if you share a household with others who also want to watch Disney+.

To create a new profile on Disney+, go to your profile and select Add profile. Choose an avatar, input a name, and select Save. Now, whenever you launch Disney+, each user can select their profile.

You can also create a Disney+ kid's profile, which offers curated content and features, alongside a simplified user interface.

10. Switch to Annual and Save Money

You probably pay for Disney+ monthly. In the US, that costs $7.99. But if you're in it for the long haul, switch to the Disney+ annual plan instead. This is an upfront payment of $79.99, which represents almost a 20% saving compared to paying for twelve months.

To switch, use the Disney+ website or mobile app. Go to your profile and select Account > Disney+ (monthly) > Switch to annual. Confirm your payment details to complete the transaction.

You might also wish to consider The Disney Bundle, which includes Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu. It's $13.99/month for Hulu with ads and $19.99/month without ads.

Disney+ Is Well Worth the Subscription

If you usually load Disney+, select something to watch, and don't bother exploring anything else, hopefully you've learned something new today. Be sure to experiment with all these features and be on the lookout for more, since Disney+ is an evolving platform that's well worth the money.
