You can now enjoy the IMAX experience while watching your favorite Marvel movies at home on Disney+.

Disney and IMAX have partnered to upgrade 13 Marvel movies to an expanded IMAX aspect ratio format on Disney+. This article will tell you everything you need to know about this partnership, including which movies will get the new IMAX aspect ratio.

Disney+ Is Upgrading 13 Marvel Movies to an Expanded IMAX Aspect Ratio

Disney has collaborated with IMAX to upgrade 13 Marvel movies to IMAX’s aspect ratio on Disney+ from November 12, 2021, which also happens to be Disney+ Day.

This means that if you're those movies at home, the large black bars at the top and bottom of the screen are almost removed, giving you a better picture and overall experience.

Speaking of experience, the IMAX Enhanced format will also upgrade the sound on Disney+ by adding DTS and supporting Dolby Vision, HDR10, 4K, and Dolby Atmos sound.

To help you identify the movies with the IMAX aspect ratio, Disney+ will give them a prominent label. If you prefer to watch eligible movies in the standard widescreen version, however, you'll also have that option.

While IMAX traditionally uses a more square-like 1.43:1 format, the expanded aspect ratio is 1.90:1, which is not far from the normal 16:9 ratio of TVs.

Many Marvel movies already feature 1.90:1 sequences captured with IMAX-certified cameras for a better fit on IMAX screens. Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, for instance, are just some examples.
