The Muppet Show was added to Disney+ recently, but some episodes from the 1976 show come with a content advisory warning.

Why Does The Muppet Show Have a Content Warning?

The Muppet Show is the latest content from Disney+ to come with a trigger warning.

The show ran from 1976 to 1981 and was added to Disney+ on February 19, 2021. It stars Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and a variety of other colorful characters in a wacky and celebrity-filled variety show.

Now, 18 of its episodes come with a content warning that warns of "negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures". It's a warning that also appears before films like Peter Pan and Dumbo.

The warning is part of Disney's Stories Matter initiative, which aims to educate viewers and spark conversation about why the content is negative.

Variety reports that one episode sees Johnny Cash perform in front of a Confederate flag, while another has Spike Milligan perform various caricatures.

Two episodes are not available for streaming at all, including one which features the disgraced actor Chris Langham. The other is unavailable simply due to music rights—in fact, some songs have been edited out of other episodes for the same reason.

Any content on Disney+ that includes the warning message isn't available on children's profiles.
