Never underestimate Disney. While Disney+ only launched in the US in November 2019, the streaming service now boasts nearly 100 million subscribers. It's growth that not even the company expected.

How Many Customers Does Disney+ Have?

As announced in the Disney Q1 2021 earnings report, Disney+ has 94.9 million subscribers globally, as of January 2, 2021.

It means that the figure doesn't take into account subscribers gained through the successful release of WandaVision. It wouldn't be unfair to assume that Disney+ now has over 100 million subscribers.

The last figures were reported in December 2020, when Disney announced it had bagged 86 million subscribers for its titular streaming service. The jump since then can likely be attributed to strong exclusive content like season two of The Mandalorian and Pixar's feature film Soul.

Average monthly revenue per subscriber dropped from $5.56 a year ago to $4.04 today, which can be accounted mostly to the cheaper cost of the service in India and Indonesia.

Hulu and ESPN+, streaming services also owned by Disney, saw strong growth too. The former grew 30% year-over-year to 39.4 million subscribers, while the latter grew 83% year-over-year for a total of 12.1 million subscribers.

Disney recently launched a bundle combining all its streaming services, so it's clear that the company continues to back all three.

Star is also due to launch in many regions soon, which will provide a huge boost to the number of films and TV shows that Disney+ offers.
