My 500GB Windows 7 Ultimate-x64 laptop has two partitions of 235 [C:] & 226 GB [D:]. The latter is almost full. I need to create a new partition from C: [it has more than 150GB free], but the Windows Disk Management won't let me.
Which disk partition software can I use to shrink my C: drive, so I can install Windows 8 on a fresh partition? Thanks.

I have a feeling Disk Management isn't letting you partition the drive because you haven't defragged yet. Basically the problem is that there is data near the end of the partition so windows can not resize the partition. You must
defrag your hard disk
(
Perfect Disk
did the trick for me). Have a look at the best Windows defragging utilities here: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/best-windows-software/ Please note, if you use a Live CD to resize your partition you may loose data as it doesn't consider the data in the drive while resizing. Hello!I recently came across a similar question some days back.Check it out:http://www.makeuseof.com/answers/allot-free-space-hard-disk-existing-drive-windows/#comment-316571202Download this very popular and powerful freeware called "EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition" ( from here : http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm ) and install it. When you run it, you will need to Resize the C: drive (by shrinking it from the right-end). The newly formed unallocated space can then be made into a new drive. The process is really simple, and so is the software. Please go through the links. It'll help. If there's a problem, let us know!

Hello, from experience I can tell you that if you have a 500 GB, you can not shrink the main drive to less than half its size. The solution for you without using different software is to go to the command line and use the diskpart utility.http://forums.techarena.in/guides-tutorials/1172499.htmAs a warning, when you use the windows disk management, the utility will stop you or give a warning if you make changes that can cause trouble. Diskpart, on the other hand will not stop you from making changes.....so make sure to pay attention if you decide to use it.
