After recently launching Stage Channels, Discord has announced it will be improving the way these audio channels are found through a new feature called Stage Discovery.

It's also going to experiment with letting users turn these into ticketed events, along with the addition of threaded discussions in text channels.

What Is Discord Stage Discovery?

Last month, Discord introduced Clubhouse-style Stage Channels to the platform. Now, Discord has announced plans to make these channels even easier to discover.

Stage Discovery will let you browse public Stage Channels through a dedicated section on the app. These will be curated through machine learning, ensuring that the best and most interesting discussions rise to the top.

You will be able to join and listen to the Stage Channel directly from this page. If you like what you hear, you can then join the room and become part of the audience. You can do all of this without joining the server itself, though there will be a handy Join Community button that will let you do just that if desired.

Stage Channels can't use explicit language in titles on descriptions, nor can the discussions themselves be graphic or sexual. Channels that break these rules can be reported and Discord will also monitor through its own tools and safety team.

According to The Verge, Stage Discovery will begin rolling out on June 1st. You will be able to access it through a dedicated icon on the desktop app's Home menu, or through the toolbar on mobile.

Ticketed Events and Threaded Discussions Are Also Coming to Discord

Discord also plans to experiment with ticketed Stage Channels, where the host can charge users to join. That will be piloted shortly with 50 creators based in the US. Discord wouldn't comment on whether it would take a percentage of the sales, but did acknowledge it would explore options during the pilot.

Finally, from this summer through to year-end, Discord will roll out threads in text channels. Discussions in larger servers can quickly become unwieldy, so threads should make it easier to keep track of different conversations. If you use enterprise-orientated messaging service Slack, it's a handy feature that you'll be familiar with already.

Discord Rebrands for Its Sixth Birthday

All of this comes off the back of Discord rebranding for its sixth birthday. The service now has a new logo, type face, color scheme, and more.

While originally created as a place for gamers to gather in 2015, Discord has radically grown in scope since then, and the company wanted to rebrand to reflect that.
