Google Assistant is the default digital assistant that comes integrated into the Google app pre-installed on all Android phones. While some people use it regularly, others not so much.

In this guide, we'll see how you can turn off Google Assistant on your Android phone. We'll also see how to delete your saved Voice Match profile for extra privacy. Let's get started.

Why You Should Turn Off Google Assistant

Google Assistant is a useful feature, but not everyone finds it amusing. There could be several reasons for this. For one, if you prefer doing things manually, there's no point keeping Google Assistant turned on as it'll drain battery life and hog processing power of your phone.

There's also a matter of privacy for people who feel uneasy knowing that Google is always listening to you. If you're one of those people, it's best to turn the Assistant off for your peace of mind. As a result, this will also help in stopping your phone from tracking you.

How to Turn Off Google Assistant on Android

First, let's see how to delete your saved voice match profile on Google Assistant, and then how to turn it off entirely. Here's how to do this:

  1. Open the Google app and tap on your profile picture.
  2. Tap Settings > Google Assistant > Hey Google & Voice Match.
  3. Tap Voice model > Delete voice model > OK.
  4. Now go back to Assistant settings and tap General and toggle off Google Assistant.

The next time you want to use Google Assistant, you can launch it with a long-press of the home button or by swiping diagonally from the bottom corner of your screen. You'll then be prompted to re-enable it before you can use it.

Disable Google Assistant on Your Android Device

Whether it's out of concern for your privacy or you simply don't use the feature, Google Assistant is not for everyone. If you're someone who belongs in either of those camps, it's best to get rid of the digital assistant entirely.

Although do note that you can't fully delete Google Assistant because to do that, you'll have to uninstall the Google app which is neither possible nor recommended since the app is such an integral part of Android. At best, you can disable it.
