I want to know which software or program is running a particular process which I saw in the Windows task manager. Is there any method or can it be done through some software or any other task manager?

Well, it’s hard to judge from the process’s name but you can search online with the keywords entered for more indepth description of the program. Also don’t confuse services and programs within the same line of identification since they interpret different functions

click the running programs and rightclick>goto process, If no program is running it then maybe its a hidden program or a windos utility.

Use process hacker -http://processhacker.sourceforge.net/Under description of each process it shows the name of software or company that the process is related to.Also,if you select a process and hit enter, then you can see some detailed information about it.

It depends on which version of windows you use. If you have windows xp you will definitely have to download a software to help understand what each process means. If you have windows 7 then open up the task manager, click the processes tab and look for a description column. If you are still confused about which process is which then click on the applications tab, right click on the process you want know about, click go to process. It will automatically tell you which process belongs to the applcation.

There are many alternatives like task info, what's running(this works on win xp sp3),Yet Another Process Monitor(YAPM) or prcview. You can try them all.

Sysinternals Process Explorer shows what objects are being used by the processes on the system.
