I have a 2Mb DSL connection. My laptop is working properly on this connection but my desktop PC is very slow, although I have been assured that there are no viruses or software problems on the PC and Windows is up to date.

I approached a technician and he solved the problem for a short time but after few hours the same problem continued. He said that the problem was likely related to software. Can you please help me?

Do you have any anti-virus internet security such has Norton?Run the following command in command link interface. "netstat -a" . Check to see if there are any suspicious ports that are sending or recieving traffic.

If you are using IE6, you shouldn't be allowed near a computer.

Your biggest problem would appear to be IE6. Your first step should be upgrading that to something faster (and much more secure). Use speedtest.net to see what kind of transfer rates you are getting. Look at the network tab in Task Manager to see if you have constant traffic from some other application. Go to dns-ok.us to see if you are bouncing off of soon to be decomissioned servers which have been known to have resulted in slow name resolution at times.

if its hardware problem then you have to buy a new one.if you are still on IE6 perhaps you have to consider upgrade to the latest version.Perhaps your antivirus is slowing the connection, so you have to llok there also.MicrosoftFixit50195 (reset Internet Explorer settings)http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737MicrosoftFixit50199 reset tcp/iphttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
