Inspired by Beth Ritter-Guth’s very good article on creating iPhone apps, I’m considering giving it a try. My question is, do I really need to learn Objective-C if all I want to make is a simple hypertext reference app with a few simple graphics? I’m not trying to do anything more fancy than hyperlinked text and photos.

If that's all you're wanting to do, a webapp might be an easier way to go. OpenAppMkt.com is a popular place to submit webapps. If you're really wanting to charge for the app, they also allow for that as well.
