Android offers several features to help you keep your items organized on your phone. One of these features is the ability to create folders. You can create home screen folders to group your various apps, and you can also create folders in your file manager to organize your files.

In this guide, we'll show you how to create both types of folders on an Android device.

How to Create an App Folder in Android

Creating a folder on your home screen only requires you to pick at least two apps and put them together. Both these apps then get grouped into a folder, giving you lots more ways to organize your Android home screen.

To do this on your device, access the home screen panel where the apps you want to put into a folder are located. Then tap and hold on the first app until a popup menu appear.

Without lifting your finger, drag the app and drop it on top of another. This will create a folder with both apps inside.

How to Rename an App Folder in Android

Some Android phones automatically assign a name to the home screen folder, based on the included apps. Not all phones name the folder automatically. If yours doesn't, you will simply be prompted to type a name when you first create the folder.

If you want to give a custom name to your folder, you just need to tap to open the folder, then tap on the name to rename it.

How to Create a File Folder in Android

The above shows you how to create home screen folders for apps. But, what if you want to make a folder to manage your files on Android, including music, videos, and documents? This is where you need to create a file manager folder. Once you've made this folder, you can then add any type of file to it.

The steps to create a file manager folder will slightly vary depending on your Android device, and which file manager you're using, but they're generally pretty similar.

To start, open the file manager app on your phone. Then navigate to the directory where you want to make a new folder. This directory could be on your internal storage or even on external storage like an SD card.
