Is there any website that tests the speed, latency, and up time of hosts? Sort of like av comparatives, but with web hosts instead. I would like to see some side-by-side tests.

Inevitably there are "ifs and buts" but my first port of call for something like that would be netcraft with numerous internet statistics measures such as http://uptime.netcraft.com/perf/reports/HostersSome hosting companies provide comparative tests too but you may have some concern that their objectivity could be compromised - so don't rely on a single source. Example: http://www.fastvirtual.com/hosting/performance.htmlThe "best" stats will be based on tests from a global spread of servers originating the queries but if you only or largely serve a national market then a host based in your "home territory" may provide fastest responses for your locally based visitors. As a web designer/developer, hosting sites for my clients with on dedicated servers hosted by a third party, the single most important issue is the support they provide. Is it an Indian "help desk" or do I get 24/7 access to skilled technicians keen to solve the problem rather than keep their closed call rate statistics looking good. Example: one of my servers had a disk fail at 11p.m. on Christmas day, everything was back within a couple of hours.
