Since the Apple Watch has a small screen and limited ways to interact, having Siri on the device is a huge benefit. You don't have to navigate through menus every time you want to do something on your watch; just ask Siri to handle it for you.

Let's take a look at what you can do with Siri on your Apple Watch so you can use the wearable more efficiently.

Using Siri on Apple Watch

In case you're not familiar, it's easy to summon Siri on your Apple Watch. The two most convenient ways are pressing and holding the Digital Crown for a moment, or saying "Hey Siri." Either one will bring up the familiar Siri icon where the assistant will listen to your question.

See how to use Siri on your Apple Watch for more background and info, if needed. We'll look at actual Siri commands below, using brackets to show where you need to add in your own words to complete the request.

Siri on Apple Watch: Basic Requests

Here are some simple Siri commands to get you started:

  • How's the weather? Hear the temperature and conditions in your current location, along with a preview of the next several hours. You can ask about a specific place instead, too.
  • Open [app]: Instead of scrolling through your grid of apps, you can ask Siri to open anything installed on your watch.
  • How's my activity?: Check your progress on closing your rings for the day.
  • Ask about facts: Siri can answer general knowledge questions, like what year World War I ended, how old a celebrity is, or why the sky is blue.
  • Convert [unit] to [another unit]: Quickly convert feet to meters or run calculations to find the right tip on a restaurant bill.
  • What can you do?: Siri will share some of the tasks it can accomplish, with a link to learn more.

Messages and Calls With Siri on Apple Watch

Don't worry about typing out a message or phone number on your watch; it's all possible by voice with Siri.

  • Call [contact]: Siri will call any of your contacts, right on your watch.
  • Cal [number]: If you don't mind sounding a bit silly reading a number out loud, Siri can call anyone outside of your contact book, too.
  • Redial my last call: Quickly call back whoever last called you.
  • Text [contact]: When you say this, Siri will ask what you want to send to the person in a message. Once you speak out the message, Siri will show it, then send it unless you tap Don't send.
  • Tell [contact] [message]: This format lets you send short messages in one go. Saying "Tell Beth I'll be there in 10 minutes," for example, skips the part where Siri asks what your message is.
  • Read my last text: Hear whatever message you received most recently. You can also ask to hear recent messages from a specific contact.

Controlling Music With Siri on Apple Watch

With Apple Music or another streaming service, you can play and control your tunes using your voice on your wrist.

  • Play [artist, album, playlist, genre, etc.]: Start playing whatever music you're in the mood for. You may need to add "on Spotify" or similar to the end, depending on what service you use.
  • Play, pause, skip: Use basic commands to control the flow of your music.
  • What song is this? Thanks to Shazam integration, Siri can identify music playing around you.

Time, Alarms, and Timers

Need to keep track of time and tasks on your watch? Let Siri help.

  • What time is it?: If you can't see the time on your watch for some reason, ask Siri what time it is.
  • What time is it in [location]?: Find out the local time in any city or region.
  • When is sunset?: Ask when the sun will rise or set next in your area.
  • How many days until [date]?: Get a count of how long it is until a holiday or specific date.
  • How many minutes until [time]?: Similar to the above, this lets you find out the exact number of minutes until a time of your choosing.
  • Set an alarm for [time]: This lets you set alarms for relative times (such as "set an alarm for an hour from now") or specific times ("set an alarm for 8:00 AM").
  • Set a timer for [length]: Set a timer right on your watch, which is handy when cooking, playing board games, and similar.

Note that alarms and timers you set on your Apple Watch will not sync to your iPhone. This allows you to use a silent watch alarm for one purpose and an audible phone alarm for another. However, reminders will sync between your devices.

Siri Navigation With Apple Watch

Siri makes it easy to figure out where you're going. Try these commands:

  • Take me to the nearest [location type]: Find a nearby gas station, grocery store, or similar.
  • Give me directions to [address]: Start navigation to a specific location.

Reminders, Tasks, and Calendar With Siri on Apple Watch

Ask Siri to help you manage the little details of life with these commands:

  • Remind me to [task] at [time]: Easily set reminders for a certain date and time without filling out all the fields manually in the Reminders app.
  • Add [item] to my [note name] note: Append your notes without using the app manually.
  • What's next on my calendar? See what event you have scheduled next. You can also ask What's on my calendar for tomorrow? if you're curious about a specific day.
  • Add [event] to my calendar at [time] on [day]: Set up new calendar events with just a few words.
  • Move my [time] meeting to [new time]: Quickly reschedule events on your calendar.
  • What's my update? This gives you a summary of your day, including the weather report, calendar events, upcoming reminders, and a brief news digest.

Siri on Apple Watch: Miscellaneous

There are some other handy uses for Siri on your Apple Watch that don't fit into any other category:

  • Start a [type] workout: Begin a workout in a category like outdoor run or swimming.
  • Turn on/off [setting]: Easily toggle options like airplane mode and Focus.
