I tried CleanMyMac on my MacBook and I was really impressed. It got me over 5 GB back and made my machine faster. So, I was wondering if there was something the same for my aging old Windows machine? Thanks!

When I was still using my old system with Windows XP, I used to use this tool. You have to look for it nowadays because the author no longer has a website for this tool. This is a link for this free software:http://www.techspot.com/downloads/24-cleancache.htmlOn this link you can read a brief description of all the functions this program accomplishes. It can clean history, cache, cookies, temporary files, etc, for Opera, Firefox, Internet Explorer. It also includes secure file deletion with different algorithms. I used this software for a long time and I can recommended because it never gave problems.

I recommend using CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner). You may also want to use the CCleaner Enhancer (http://thewebatom.net/programs/ccleaner-enhancer/) to get even better cleaning results [for more Applications].I do recommend to look through all option before you hit "Run Cleaner".If you are not sure what is going to be deleted you can click the "Analyze" button und double-click the sections (where it says "Details of files to be deleted" to get a detailed view. The Registry section is pretty safe to use. I've always selected all options there and never ran into problems.Other things that slow down your PC are background processes and startup items. The safest approach to sort them out probably is Soluto (http://www.soluto.com/).
