A new instal of Windows 7 on a 500GB HDD.

It shows only 131MB capacity & 345873MB unallocated. FORMAT does not offer the option to create another partition.

Any advice/solution will be appreciated.

Regards, Dan

Hello, you can also use the free version of Partition Wizard. The following is the link with instructions and pictures:http://www.geeksdo.com/capture-unallocated-space-windows-7.html

I believe he may still be trying to get an operating system onto his drive. If that is the case, an executable can't run without an OS.

Hi Dan,There are many ways to go about doing this, but I would suggest that you burn a Linux LiveCD and boot from it. Most LiveCD's come with GParted (A partition manager) installed by default, which will allow you to manipulate your partitions and file systems. Find your unallocated table and format it to NTFS and you can install Windows off of it then. GParted LiveCD Ubuntu LiveCD Mint LiveCD 1.) Burn the ISO to a disk. 2.) Boot from the disk. You may have to change your bios boot priority to boot from the CD/DVD drive rather from the hard drive. You will have an option once you boot up your computer to go into the settings, it's usually F2, F12 or delete. 3.) Use the Gparted utility included on most LiveCD's to alter the partition. Once you've formated the unallocated table to NTFS, chose apply from the "edit" menu.4.) Reboot and insert the windows CD. You can now use this partition.
