Staying active is a struggle when you have to sit in front of a screen all day. Sitting for long hours results in a lack of motivation, sluggish performance, and a decline in productivity. As a result, simple tasks take hours to complete, and even plenty of caffeine doesn't help.

In this article, we will explore some Chrome extensions to help you improve your mobility. Therefore, if you are lazy like a frog all the time, you will find these extensions useful.

1. DeskAthlete

DeskAthlete Extension Showing an Instruction to Follow in Chrome

DeskAthlete is the perfect one-stop solution to help you improve your mobility while working on a desk for an extended time. The extension includes more than 40 exercises to help you stay in shape. While most exercises or instructions are simple to follow, more difficult ones come with an instructional video. Therefore, there is no steep learning curve.

Within the extension's settings, you can also customize the extension to match your preferences. Besides setting the time interval between each reminder, you can turn on the flashing alert, so the extension will flash after each interval, forcing you to open it and do the exercise.

In addition, there are multiple types of exercises: basic reminders, strength exercises, mobility activities, and stretches. You can enable or disable any of these exercise types to appear in the reminder. DeskAthlete also lets users add custom exercises that appear in reminders, which is a nice touch.

2. Limber

Think of Limber as your digital orthopedist, who helps you keep the correct posture to maintain your spinal health. Staying static for long hours, regardless of the ergonomic desk chairs you use, risks progressive degeneration of joints, muscles, and tendon and ligament injuries. That's where Limber comes in.

By activating the two boxes, Remind me to stay loose and Remind me to take a break, you will be reminded to change your posture and take a break. The time intervals for both options are 10 and 30 minutes, respectively. You should check both boxes to keep your spinal health at its best.

On the downside, the extension doesn't offer customization options for tweaking the break reminder interval. You have two options on its interface for enabling the type of reminder you want, and there are no other tweaking options.

Regular breaks to stretch, walk, or meditate can benefit your physical and mental health, and Embody can assist you in doing that. By providing you with break reminders at the intervals you choose, Embody encourages you to reconnect with your body. As for the reminder alerts, Embody sends them both via web page and desktop. Therefore, there is no chance of missing the reminders.

The more you act upon every reminder, the more you can help reduce or prevent dark circles under your eyes and pain in your back. You can also promote a better emotional connection to your body and your work. The extension's interface is super intuitive, too. You can modify the interval between reminders, turn reminders off, or tweak the types of alerts you wish to receive.

4. DeskTrainer

DeskTrainer Extension Open in Chrome

If you spend too much time on distracting websites, and website blockers fail to help you with this habit, DeskTrainer can help you stay accountable. Using the extension, you can add a list of distracting sites that are your biggest time hogs. Then, you can set a time limit (in minutes) for how long you want to spend on distracting sites before the extension redirects you to another website.

Once you reach that threshold, you'll be redirected to a different website, forcing you to go for a workout. The DeskTrainer extension allows you to choose your active days of the week, the daily start and end time when it will kick in, and the overall workout duration.

As a penalty for people who delay their workouts while browsing a distracting website, DeskTrainer adds 30 seconds to the overall duration of the workout. If you wish to use this option, check the box next to Add 30 seconds penalty for delaying workout before clicking Save Settings. When using it in conjunction with DeskAthlete, you'll find the DeskTrainer more time-saving and practical.

5. 30s Neck Stretch

The importance of maintaining good neck health cannot be overstated. As we sit next to our computers, we tend to rely on our necks for posture support, so a neck strain can slow us down. This is where the 30s Neck Stretch comes in.

Similar to how the Limber keeps your spine healthy, this extension reminds you to stretch your neck. The interval is set by default at 45 minutes, so you'll receive a reminder the first time after three-quarters of an hour. When you receive the first reminder, a popup window will appear with a timer in the top-right corner. When pressed, a countdown of 30 seconds begins.

You can change the reminder interval in the same window by clicking Options. Also, there is a How to button that takes you to a YouTube tutorial about neck stretch exercises. Stretching your neck regularly may just keep you from needing to see a massage therapist for months.

Over 9,000 users across the globe use Move It to improve their mobility. When you find it difficult to entertain yourself during your break at your desk, Move It will help you. After each interval, Move It will open a window on your screen containing a short exercise to follow. During your break, you can walk around the office, climb the stairs, or do a random activity to warm yourself up.

As soon as you are done with the exercise, you can go back to your desk, click Done, and keep working until another interval passes and Move It suggests another exercise. Move It is not customizable, so you only have options to enable or disable the extension or tweak the time interval. Nevertheless, that's all you need to get the most out of the extension.
