The Chrome 91 update has been released by Google, and it is available across Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS. While other platforms have received some bug fixes and optimizations, most of the new features have been added to Chrome for Android.

Chrome 91 Will Load Websites With Better Visuals

In a blog post on the Chrome Developers website, Google highlights the various changes coming to Chrome 91.

With the Chrome 91 update, forms will no longer look outdated and dreary. Microsoft had redesigned the standard HTML forms, checkboxes, and radio buttons for Microsoft Edge. These redesigned visuals have now made their way to Chrome for Android.

The gray colors have now been replaced with a bright blue and white combination.

These design changes will only be seen on websites that rely on Standard HTML. Websites using CSS have their own designs, anyway.

Additionally, Google is releasing a set of developer tools that will allow websites to optimize battery usage in real-time. Essentially, websites can instruct your browser to use less resources on certain processes such as script loading or frame rates.

The Find in page feature is receiving an improvement that will allow it to see hidden text. Of course, this will first need to be implemented by the website using a new CSS value.

While Chrome can automatically read and fill in SMS OTPs, the feature is receiving an update that will improve the efficiency of the feature. OTPs will now be accessed using cross-origin iframes. Developers will have to implement this feature for their websites, and it's unlikely that your bank is going to enable it anytime soon.

The GravitySensor API is now enabled by default. As its name implies, the API allows easier access to gravity sensor data. Earlier, developers had to guess the gravity data using readings from the accelerometer which led to inaccurate readings.

Improved Clipboard Access on Desktop

While the focus of this update has been on Android, the desktop version has received some tweaks as well.

Notably, Chrome can now directly read files that have been copied to your clipboard. Essentially, you can copy (CTRL + V) a file from the File Explorer and simply paste (CTRL + V) it on supported websites.

Although a similar feature has been available on Safari since 2018, not a lot of websites implement it because they are developed keeping in mind Chrome's popularity.
