Windows 10 comes with Microsoft Edge set as the default browser, but it's easy to change this. Whether you want to make Chrome your default browser or switch to something else, it's a simple process.

We'll show you how to change the default browser in Windows 10 so you can set it to whatever you want.

How to Set the Default Browser in Windows 10

To start, open Settings using the gear icon in the Start menu, or anywhere with the keyboard shortcut Win + I. On the main menu, go to Apps, then click Default apps from the left sidebar.

Here you'll see a list of Windows 10 default categories you can change, such as Email and Music player. Scroll to the bottom to find Web browser, which will display your current default. Click the current default browser to display a list of other browsers you have installed.

Windows Change Default Browser List

Simply click a browser in this list to set your default browser choice. From then on, all web links you click in various apps will open in that browser.

If you don't see the browser you want to use, make sure that you have it installed on your computer. You can't set a default until the browser is installed and ready to go. Try searching for the browser's name on the Start menu to confirm you have it.

In case you have the browser installed but it still won't show up in this list, it's a good idea to uninstall and reinstall it. Some of its files may be damaged, causing Windows not to recognize it as an option. To uninstall a browser, go to Settings > Apps & features, click the app you want to remove, and choose Uninstall.

After reinstalling a fresh copy (and restarting your PC), try to set the browser as default again. In case you're searching for a new option, why not try one of the best open source web browsers?
