When it comes to old-school watches that could take a beating, few brands carry as much weight as Casio. The company started making watches with the G-Shock branding back in 1983.

Now, the company is bringing the beloved G-Shock branding and style to the world of smartwatches. If you like the throwback style of 80s watches and you need a watch that can legitimately take a beating, the new GSW-H1000 smartwatch might be just what you've been waiting for.

What Does the Casio GSW-H1000 Bring to the Table?

Let's be honest: smartwatches are fantastic, but most of them aren't built to handle a beating. The inclusion of giant screens means there's a highly delicate piece of technology strapped to your wrist. Watches from the old days, like the G-Shock, were able to handle whatever you threw at them and keep telling time.

As you might expect from the G-Shock line, the GSW-H1000 comes with shock resistance and water resistance up to a depth of 200 meters. While it has all the features offered by Google's Wear OS, it also comes with G-Shock's rugged design fans have grown to love over the last 30+ years.

Wear OS brings with it support for Google Assistant and Google Fit. You can also gain increased functionality through the ability to download apps from Google Play.

The hardware is actually quite cool, even outside of its physical toughness. First, a 1.2-inch 360x360 dual-layer display has both an always-on monochrome LCD and a color LCD panel.

As far as the battery, you'll get about a day and a half if you use the color display, or up to a month if you rely on just the always-on screen and sensors.

Casio says this is a fitness-focused smartwatch, and it comes with all the features you'd expect. It has an optical heart rate sensor, a built-in compass, altitude sensor, accelerometer, and more.

The software has support for 15 activities and 24 indoor workout options that will give you lots of flexibility for getting your workouts done.

All in all, it looks like Casio has checked all the boxes with this new smartwatch. It just comes down to whether you're a fan of that throwback style or if you prefer a more modern-looking smartwatch.
