Google One is a handy way of increasing your Google account’s storage capacity from the usual free 15GB. The problem is, the extra storage comes at a cost. Additionally, storage is only necessary if you’ve filled up the allotted 15GB storage quota.

If you’re miles away from filling the free 15GB, spending extra cash on Google One isn’t worth it. If you want to cancel your Google One subscription, here's how to do it.

What Happens When You Cancel Google One?

Before showing you how to cancel your Google One subscription, you should be aware of what will happen afterwards. In addition to losing access to more storage, what else will you miss out on?

The first one is access to Google Experts–a remote team of trained professionals at your disposal if you need any help regarding Google products and services. You will also miss out on the free Android VPN from Google, extra photo and video editing features in Google Photos, and special hotel rates.

And if you’ve been sharing your additional Google storage with family, it won’t be possible anymore. Every family member will retain their free 15GB quota, however. If they have filled up their 15GB of free storage, that will lead to several issues.

There are also some other consequences that you might not have considered. Gmail will stop working—you will be unable to send and receive email messages. You won’t be able to copy or edit affected files in Google Drive, and sync and upload functionality will not work. Also, Google Photos will not be able to back up any media files.

To avoid all of these from happening, check how much storage you’ve left in your Google account first. Luckily, these perks won’t go away immediately–Google will take them away from you at the end of the billing cycle (when your Google One subscription is supposed to renew).

Stop Google One Subscription

Google One subscription doesn’t cost that much, but it can cause concern if you pay for higher storage plans. Ensuring you get your money’s worth is important. If you feel that’s not the case with Google One anymore, go ahead and cancel your subscription.

Remember, you can always move Google Drive files to your other Google account if that’s what is eating up most of your storage.
