The software that came with my external hard drive doesn't exactly fit my needs. Can anyone give me suggestion what backup software will be able to fulfill these criteria:

  • Scheduled and Incremental backup feature.
  • Free
  • Backups can be explored and old files can be deleted

Thanks!

I like Crashplan (unlimited data!!). Saved me many times.Of course, if you only have a little bit of data, you can use Dropbox, Cubby, Box, Google Drive, SkyDrive, etc.

Paragon Backup & Recovery is very good, but another excellent backup program is Cobian Backup. It does everything you have asked for and is free.

I don't understand why Microsoft hasn't built in something like Apple's Time Machine at this point. That software is so easy to use, and backs everything up so well. Anyway, I recommend you check out Tina's excellent Backup guide. It outlines a number of different programs and teaches you to set them up. It's a couple of years old, but well worth the read: [broken link removed]

The Paragon Backup & Recovery Free mentioned above is a good product. I use their Hard Disk Suite on my Windows machines. Depending on the frequency of the backups and the amount of data changed between the backups, you may find it more efficient to use differential backups rather than incrementals.

Thank you Bruce. Have you tried it before? Is it heavy on resource?

Give Paragon Backup & Recovery Free a try. It can handle most backup tasks for the majority of home users without needing to buy anything and it offers flexible backup options.
