I am using Android 4.1 and I want to know the current status of my data connection. I mean the actual upload and download speed. Can anyone recommend an app?

Thanks.

Not sure fast or accurate this would be but I use Elixr2 widget on my homescreen which shows a fairly accurate spped of my internet at any given time.I don't think it would give anything in the way detailed results but you can at least see the current speed of your connection direct from your home screen, the app can be set up to show tons as well.I use mine to show me the wifi speed and ISP, Data speed, gps button, as well as shortcut for my most used apps, battery status, phone temperautre... etc.Hope that helps.

Sorry got your question wrong initially.... I've used these two apps initially when I was using Tab... Network Speed by Pt. Its a good app. It will tell you your current uploads and download speeds. App gives you graphs and all.NetTraffic Widget Lite. It's a widget. Gives you current network speed.I Preferred Network Speed over the widget.

Network Monitor Mini displays live u/l and d/l speeds of your connection. It's a free app but has ads in the settings creen. The ads are unobtrusive, but should you wish to go ad-free, you can get the pro version for $1.https://www.anrdoezrs.net/links/7251228/type/dlg/sid/UUmuoUeUpU78355/https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.kfsoft.android.TrafficIndicator&hl=enYou can customize the indicator text colors and the location of the indicator on the screen. Check the screenshots at the Play Store page to see what the indicators look like.

I use Speedtest.net and find it best for testing your data connection speeds!

Quite a few available at Google Play. Some listed below :Click the link https://www.anrdoezrs.net/links/7251228/type/dlg/sid/UUmuoUeUpU78355/https://play.google.com/store/search?q=internet+speed+checker&c=apps&price=1 and check either of the first three apps. The first one is good and should serve the purpose.

If I understand correctly then it's not an app you need but one of the online speed checker services. The results may not mean much because if you're not using a cabled internet connection then there are too many other variables involved. For example if you're using wifi then the distance from the wifi router and the "transparency" to the wireless signal of any walls etc and the contention with other wireless devices (your neighbours wireless router maybe) and electrical interference will all degrade the signal. Similar issues apply if your connection is via the cellular network.Even on a cabled connection there can be contention and congestion issues but the impact is likely to be much less.
