Recently my friend's laptop began to show a message at BIOS startup. The message is like this:
"The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery is very low. For optimal performance this battery need to be replaced."
I was wondering if this is for the CMOS battery to be replaced or for the normal battery of the laptop. This laptop's battery used to hold for 3-4 hours, and then suddenly got this problem and now it can hold at max 30 mins.
I would like also an opinion why could this happen!
Thanks in advance,
Erlis

It sounds like you have a bad main battery. The fact that it started suddenly would point to failure of the battery's internal circuitry. Try a new battery pack.

there should be a code like 601(Primary (internal) Battery) or 602 ( Secondary (external) Battery) see the below linkHP Notebook PCs - HP Battery Alert Appears Before Windows Startshttp://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01443470HP System Diagnostics Battery Test https://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&tmp_geoLoc=true&docname=c00821536Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7 and Windows Vista)http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&tmp_geoLoc=true&docname=c01443317

you can check it with another computer , i think this is may be bad use , using the computer plugged in the ac with battery full for long times , or may be the battery was used before buying it
