Is there any way to update from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 apart from the store?

Okay..Finally the issue was resolved...I contacted Microsoft Customer Support and with a tweak in my proxy settings (Setting it to Automatic Detection) I could successfully update to Windows 8.1.... :-D

You can so do so by looking at this if you have a Windows 8: http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-download-the-official-microsoft-windows-8-1-iso/.

I don't know if this will work, but try to do this: http://www.windows8core.com/how-to-upgrade-from-windows-8-to-windows-8-1-without-downloading-from-store/. It looks like it is the same set up, but it gives you a product key. You can also look at this: http://www.cyberfreewishes.com/2/post/2013/10/how-to-download-official-windows-81-iso-without-opening-store.html?sh_link_click_pro#.U1Cck9xdWGM. That says you can enter your retail Windows 8 key. You can get that by installing something called 'Belarc Advisor'. After you install it, It just opens up an html file and shows you your license key, software licenses, and drivers.

are you trying to update windows 8 to windows 8.1? The best will be Windows store in order to avoid problems or a friend who already downloaded from windows store, made a dvd.

I assume that you mean Windows 8.1 update , rather Windows 8.1 ("update" is the latest, and is required in order to continue receiving security updates). If you don't want to download it using the Windows Update service, see http://www.extremetech.com/computing/178091-how-to-download-and-install-windows-8-1-update-1-for-free-right-now for links to the standalone versions.
