I have an iPad 2 and an iPad Mini (older). My desktop runs an unauthorized version of Win 8. When this was installed, all my music in iTunes got deleted and is irrecoverable, too bad! Can make a fresh start.

A) I teach Vocals to about 20 students, ages ranging from 15-31. Naturally they want some of their repertoire to include backing tracks/instrumentals, generally from YouTube, and I can easily download them on my desktop using YTD or similar. How do I get them onto my iPads?

They are usually in the wrong key for my students. There are fine apps in iOS for changing the key, but I have to open the file!

B) Another long-standing prob: the built-in Music app in my iPads has a few songs and one album. Not sure how they got there, possibly from a now defunct iPod. My iTunes (on the desktop) has nothing in it and only wants me to purchase new songs/albums. No Apps, nothing in it! Win 8 doesn't help!

Very grateful for advice.

I'd recommend using something like VLC for this. I don't know if it can save YouTube videos directly, but transferring is a breeze thanks to the WebUI upload. I wrote an article about it, you can read more: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/ditch-itunes-use-vlc-iphone-ipad-media/

First and foremost, you really need to get a legitimate license for Win8.I don't use iOS devices, but you should be able to download the videos directly to the iPad without needing the computer at all. If you cannot, just download them in .mp4 format, import them into iTunes, then sync them with your iPads. If you only need the audio, you could download just the audio portion as an .mp3, import and sync them in order to save space on both the computer and the tablets.
