How can I eliminate certain types of content from my web search? For example, I often look for text versions of videos. So, I may want to remove video results from my search. Can this be done? For example, there is an interesting news report but it is in video form. So, I grab the title and google it, but nearly all the results are other websites showing the same video. How do I get to a news report of the video so that I can read it? I don’t like video reports because they have audio and disturb other people in the room. With just text, I can read at my own speed and do it quietly.

There's no precise way to do this in Google, but you can use the "-" operator to exclude certain results. For example
-video
will eliminate any page that has the word video on it). In the case of news, you can, after the initial search, click on the "News" link at the top of the screen and you'll get results from news sources only. For a range of other options, you can use Google Advanced Seardch - http://www.google.com/advanced_search . There are plenty of options there.

You could google the title as you currently do, but add +transcript. It will generally give you results that have a transcript of the video.
