Hi!

I am trying to run a program from a DVD without success. I read the question How can I load software from CD using Wine under Linux? which is similar in my case and tried to do as Jeffery Fabish suggested, but that did not help.

The software is an educational program for children; I can't find a specific name on it. and I can't even find out what version of Wine I am using but just installed it yesterday so should be the latest. I copied the files to the desktop and tried to run the autorun.exe file, then this installshield wizard-window comes up and wants to install this learning program, but after clicking the forward button nothing at all happens.

What to do...? thanks so much for help!

Wine is not compatible with all Windows software, so I'd suggest that you start by figuring out what the software is called and looking it up in the Wine compatibility list (http://appdb.winehq.org/) to establish see if it is known to have compatibility problems. I realise you don't currently know the name of the program, but you should be able to figure it out (or, putting it differently, would you install software on your PC without even knowing what it is?).I'm not an expert on Linux, so will leave it to others to suggest specific advice about the installation, but if, at the end of the process, you can't get the program installed under Wine, you could try using an emulator such as Virtual Box and run the program in Windows within Linux. Of course, you'll need to get a copy of Windows for this...

OK, so the software is called Janosch Vorschule 2. It is not listed in the Wine compatibility list and from what I can see it is very old program (it's listed as compatible with Windows 98/XP). In fact, even installing it on XP can be problematic as explained in http://www.quinto-verlag.de/faq-details/items/janosch-vorschule-englisch-unter-vistaxp.html. I doubt very much that you'll be able to get it to run on Wine. Sorry.
