Is is possible to use an external drive to play Blu-ray discs on a MacBook? It has a Core2Duo processor and 9400m graphics.

Is it physically possible and does it need any software, either paid or free?

Unfortunately,Mac apps are pricey and simple stuffs are charged so high.Other thing you can do is to use Handbrake but it takes time.http://www.aimersoft.com/rip-blu-ray/handbrake-blu-ray.html

try Klite Codec Pack or powerDVD. KLite includes the media player classic which plays almost all the types of media! I'm using it since 2008 and never had any trouble with playing anything!

The external drive should work out of the box (at least I haven't encountered one that hasn't so far). For playback you will need third party software as Apple doesn't support BD in any of their products. If you got the latest version of VLC on your Mac you are already set. For the sake of it you might want to download and add the following files to support encrypted discs.http://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/
