Hi - I work in an elementary school, and we'd like to give iPad access to younger children and children with special needs (e.g., unpredictable, often impulsive children : ) with the least amount of babysitting required along with the least amount of risk in them dropping or otherwise breaking the devices.

Can anyone recommend particular products?

Children would like to have some games which are interactive in nature. You can install some interactive educational apps from app store. But you need to make sure that they don't get sticked to it for long time. You can protect iPad by using GForm cases as it can survive fall from space too -http://g-form.com/products/extreme-edge-10-tablet/

There's also an option in the Accessibility menu that prevents the menu button from functioning, if you want to keep the student in one app only.
