There are few people on the planet that like the sound of their own voice in recordings. We think this is due to the sound transmitted to our brain when we hear ourselves speaking being different from the sound actually generated when we speak.

So what about changing your voice?

The apps featured below will allow you to change your voice on recordings and experiment with the different ways you can sound, so recording your voice is fun, rather than a terrifying prospect.

1. Celebrity Voice Changer

Celebrity Voice Changer allows you to sound like a wide range of celebrities, as well as select fictional characters. It has over 100 voices, with the developers, HatsOffInc, encouraging users to tweet requests of new celebrities so that they can be added to the app as well.

The app is extremely simple to use, you simply allow camera and microphone access, pick the celebrity you like from the list, and then start recording!

The free version allows you to record for around eight seconds, with the paid version offering a longer recording time.

The celebrity impressions work on user-generated content that came before, so it helps to give your best impression of the celebrity you're impersonating during a recording to improve the result. Also picking a celebrity that is popular is likely to maximize the chances of it sounding right.

2. Prank Voice Changer

Prank Voice Changer is an extremely simple app that allows you to record and then add a variety of effects to it to change the way it sounds. For instance, you can change it to a robot voice, a bunny voice, or to a different gender from yourself.

Out of the 16 voice effects available, 12 are free—so you'll certainly be able to play around with the app enough before deciding whether you want to purchase the premium version.

It also seemingly lets you record for you as long as you want, so you're not restricted to a small amount of recording time.

3. Voice Changer

Voice Changer by One Pixel Studio keeps things quick and easy, allowing you to add a variety of audio effects to recordings you make in the app. While the choices of effects are slightly limited, they are a lot of fun and work well.

The app is very simple, with a screen to record and a list of effects you can add to finished recordings, such as Alien, Devil, Drunk, and—my personal favorite—Helium. You can preview how the recording will sound by pressing the Play icon next to the effect you are considering using.

The app allows you to save your recordings to come back to at a later date, which is convenient.

Adding sound effects to your voice can be very fun with the right software. While this app does have great options available, if you have access to a PC then you could have a lot of fun with the sound effects you can make using Audacity.

4. Voice Changer Plus

Voice Changer Plus is a little different from the other apps and offers you more control over your recordings by having a handy Trim feature located at the top of the screen.

By clicking on the man icon above the Record and Play buttons, you can choose from a list of voice-changing effects. Effects include staples such as Robot, Helium, and Echo.

It also has more interesting effects such as Dark One, Exterminator, and Blane, which are blatantly meant to be Darth Vader from Star Wars, Daleks from Doctor Who, and Bane from The Dark Knight Rises.

The most impressive feature of Voice Changer Plus is that it allows you to import recordings from elsewhere. This essentially means you could download any audio recording of anyone's voice and play around with it in the app.

Voice Changer Plus is geared towards absolute convenience for the user, and its low price tag makes it a top contender out of the voice-changing apps featured here.

5. Funny Voice Effects & Changer

This app by Kendra Carroll is a flashy and comprehensive celebrity voice changer that works much the same as the Celebrity Voice Changer app. It has a range of options, broken down into categories such as Man, Woman, Cartoon, and so on.

Once you've picked an option, you can record either Speech-only or Speech and Video. By clicking the Magic Wand icon to the right of the Record button, you can add effects to the video to spruce it up a bit. The app even lets you change the aspect ratio of the video.

The app allows you to record around 40 seconds, so while it is impressive with the effects it offers on both the audio and video elements of your recordings, it is a little restrictive with their length.

6. Call Voice Changer

Call Voice Changer, by Astra Communication Ltd, puts the focus of voice changing on calling others and pranking them. It features 35 effects and also gives you the option of having your initial voice as Normal, Low, Lowest, High, or Highest.

The app works by letting you pay for minutes and then calling people. You have to register your phone number with the app to do this. You can either input a number manually or click the Contacts icon to bring up your phone contacts and call a person of your choosing.

Call Voice Changer is pretty simple, but it offers a lot of fun in being able to prank your friends and relatives with different effects. If you're interested in prank calls, these popular prank call websites will be very useful to you.
