So you’ve managed to get your hands on a PlayStation 5. And while it is quite sculpturesque in design and does look lovely simply sitting atop any gamers' mantelpiece, the question is, what do you play on it?

There are plenty of incredible PlayStation 5 games to choose from, but unless your wallet is fat enough to give you back problems if you sit down while it's in your back pocket, you are going to need to choose what ones you are going to buy. If you’re finding the decision a little difficult, these are the best PS5 games you can play right now.

1. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

To be quite honest, you can't really go wrong with any Spider-Man game, but if you’re looking at playing one on the PlayStation 5, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the best by far. Few games capture the unique capabilities of the DualSense controller quite like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers make flying through the high-rises of New York feel second nature, and the story is, of course, amazing. Just make sure you have plenty of snacks on deck before you embark on this adventure because it’s so good you might forget about some of your most basic bodily functions, such as eating and sleeping. And that is based on a true story.

2. Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Big-budget AAA games are almost always absolutely mind-blowing experiences. So much so that occasionally the smaller indie titles get overlooked. But there are hundreds of incredible indie titles out there that can be just as good, if not better, than those big-budget games. And Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a perfect example of this.

The story tells the tale of a young spirit guide whose mission is to guide those that have passed from the world of the living into the spirit realm. It is a truly heartwarming adventure that combines action-adventure aspects with fast-paced combat.

3. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

The Ratchet & Clank franchise took the gaming world by storm in the early 2000s, and after a brief (if you count around five years as brief) hiatus, the franchise has finally made a return. The Ratchet & Clank series has many installations, but unlike a movie franchise that just doesn’t know when to quit, the latest entry is even better than the originals.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart takes full advantage of the PlayStation 5’s beastly capabilities by creating a sprawling game composed of many different worlds with absolutely zero loading screens. Gone are the days when gamers would sit patiently watching a purple dragon fly to the next world in a hot air balloon for minutes at a time. In Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the transition is seamless.

4. Horizon Forbidden West

If you are a fan of action RPGs, vibrant and engaging open worlds, extremely satisfying combat, and legendary storylines, you will love Horizon Forbidden West. Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn. So if you haven’t added that to your repertoire yet, you should definitely do so ASAP.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a game-changing adventure, and Forbidden West is bigger and better in almost every way. These games are very much so companions, however, so this entry is more like a two-in-one. Both Horizon games are also available on PC, but playing them with the DualSense's adaptive triggers and haptic feedback is an even more deeply immersive experience.

5. Astro's Playroom

If you’re new to the PlayStation 5 and its controller, one of the first things you should do with your PS5 is play Astro’s Playroom. Astro’s Playroom is almost like a tutorial of sorts for the DualSense and its capabilities.

The DualSense is packed full of functions and abilities that are unique to Sony’s controller, and Astro’s Playroom is designed to show them all off. If you have recently taken your console and controller out of the box, and you’re not quite sure what they are capable of, do yourself a favor and let Astro’s Playroom absolutely blow your mind.

6. Elden Ring

If you enjoy more of a challenge in terms of your video games or perhaps are a little more masochistic in nature, Elden Ring should be the next game in your backlog. Elden Ring is a souls-like experience not for the faint of heart, but its difficulty only makes it that much more satisfying when you can finally call yourself the Elden Lord.

Elden Ring claimed the esteemed title of game of the year at the 2022 Game Awards, surprising absolutely no one in the process. This followed its two yearly consecutive wins of the most anticipated title, along with several other awards, all 100% deserved. Elden Ring is a true masterpiece.

7. God of War Ragnarök

If you have made it this far in the list and have found yourself wondering where God of War Ragnarök was, don’t worry. It would almost be a crime to compile a list of the best PlayStation 5 games and not include this one. It was among some of the best video games released in 2022, after all.

God of War Ragnarök is an action-adventure game with an incredible story and equally enjoyable combat. Like the Horizon games, God of War Ragnarök is not the first in its series, and we highly recommend playing them all. Trust us, you won't regret it.

8. Gran Turismo 7

If cars are more your speed than Norse Gods, Gran Turismo 7 is the place to find them. Gran Turismo 7 is the latest entry in the long-running franchise, and it is safe to say it’s the best one yet. This is partly due to the expertly crafted next-gen graphics, immersive sound design, and DualSense controller.

Gran Turismo is a true throwback to the past with a next-gen coat of paint. The DualSense controller almost makes it feel like the closest thing to driving a car without actually driving a car. If you’re looking for games that truly capture the essence of the DualSense controller, Gran Turismo 7 should be near the top of your list.

9. Final Fantasy VII Remake

The Final Fantasy VII remake was first released in 2020 on the PlayStation 4 but has since come out on the PlayStation 5, where it swiftly became the best place to play it. If you have already purchased the PS4 version of FFVII, however, don’t run out and repurchase it! You can upgrade the PS4 version to the PS5 version for free.

The Final Fantasy franchise is an extremely long-running and popular franchise that isn’t going anywhere soon. Every Final Fantasy game is worth playing, and if you love JRPGs, you are almost guaranteed to love the franchise. If you have a PS5, and you haven’t got into the Final Fantasy games yet, what are you doing?

10. Deathloop

If you love the movie Groundhog Day but wish it had more guns, Deathloop is pretty much that. Although we’re not sure how many people would have wished for that throughout their time, we must admit that it is a great combo.

Deathloop is a first-person shooter. Your mission is to kill all your targets before the end of the day when time resets, and your foes are resurrected. Deathloop somehow combines brutal murder with humor to create a surprisingly addictive and satisfying gameplay loop, no pun intended.
