MWC 2022 is packed with announcements showcasing the latest devices and mobile innovations from some of the world's biggest companies.

But taking our award for the Best New Tech is Oppo's advancements in its SuperVOOC flash charging technology.

Oppo SuperVOOC 240W and 150W Flash Charging: Best Tech Breakthrough at MWC 2022

While a number of companies have moved towards fast charging that exceeds 100W and 200W, Oppo's announcement pushes this technology further.

The company announced that its 150W SuperVOOC flash charge with its Battery Health Engine technology will launch on a OnePlus smartphone in the second quarter of 2022.

It also showed off its new 240W flash charging technology. While it hasn't announced a device that will take advantage of this tech just yet, it did show off how fast it can top off a battery.

What's Important About Oppo's New SuperVOOC Tech?

Rather than just chasing wattage values for its chargers, the flash charging technology includes a number of improvements that benefit smartphone users overall.

Oppo highlights the development of its Battery Health Engine (BHE) in its 150W flash charging tech. So while its 150W tech can charge a 4,500mAh battery from 1% to 100% in 15 minutes—it also notably includes battery healing technology to improve the battery's longevity.

The company notes that electrodes are repaired during the battery's charging and discharging cycles, which in turn extends the battery's lifespan. With BHE, the battery maintains 80% of its capacity after 1,600 charge cycles. According to Oppo, with conventional flash charge, batteries normally reach 80% capacity within 800 charge cycles.

This means the tech could double the lifespan for batteries. Wonder how long 1,600 charge cycles is? For users who fully drain and charge their phones once a day, Oppo notes this is four years.

Meanwhile, when it comes to its 240W flash charging, the technology can charge a 4500mAh battery from 1% to 100% in nine minutes.

Oppo has also adopted a battery safety monitoring chip and temperature protection as part of its safety measures for the new charging technology.

At its MWC keynote, the company noted however that it's still polishing this tech to improve battery life and energy density before bringing it to consumers.

So while one breakthrough puts will be bringing new charging tech to users within the next few months, the other is pushing the boundaries for what comes next.
