The latest One UI 5.1 update launched with the Galaxy S23 series, and is now available on many modern Galaxy phones and tablets, including those in the S, Z, and A ranges. If your device is eligible to receive it, you might want to check out the new features the update brings and how it improves your experience.

Here are six new One UI 5.1 features you should try on your Galaxy.

1. A New Battery Widget

One UI 5.1 adds a new battery widget that shows you the current battery level of your phone, wearables, and other connected devices. It's similar to the iPhone's Lock screen widget, but only is available for the Home screen.

To access the widget, long-press an empty space on your Home screen, tap Widgets > Battery, and select the Battery status widget. You can either pick the circles view or the list view. The widget shows four devices by default, but you can resize it to fit up to eight devices.

2. Modes and Routines Improvements

Modes and Routines is one of the best features on Samsung phones, and it got even better with the One UI 5.1 update. There are two major improvements this time.

First, there's a new Theater Mode preset that helps "minimize distractions from notifications and light from your screen" so you don't accidentally disturb the people around you—a perfect addition for movie-goers!

Secondly, there are some new routine actions like enabling Quick Share to send files or changing your wallpaper. Find these actions in the Connected devices and Wallpaper menus.

3. Take Screenshots via the Quick Settings Panel

There are a few ways to take a screenshot on Samsung, and One UI 5.1 adds another one. You can now take a screenshot directly from the Quick Settings panel.

To do so, customize the Quick Settings panel and add the Take screenshot button to it.

Once added, just tap the button and your phone will do the rest. You can also long-press the button to reveal screenshot settings you might want to change.

One UI 5.1 adds a couple of things you can do in the Samsung Gallery app. Perhaps the most important one is Image Clipper, which allows you to lift a subject from a photo background, copy the cutout to your clipboard, and paste it somewhere else—similar to the iPhone. It's sadly exclusive to the flagships.

Samsung has also improved existing software features like Object Eraser which removes unwanted objects from your photo, the photo remastering tool that enhances your photos, and Face Effects, which lets you edit your selfies' color tone, jawline, eyes, and more.

5. Bixby Text Call

Similar to the Call Screen feature on Google Pixel phones, the Bixby Text Call feature on Samsung phones lets the assistant pick up the call on your behalf and ask the caller why they're calling. You get a real-time transcript of what the caller says, and Bixby reads your responses out loud.

Bixby Text Call was introduced with One UI 5 but was limited to Korean; with One UI 5.1, there's now support for English as well. The feature is designed mainly to deal with spam calls, but you can also use it when you're, say, in a meeting and can't answer the phone.

Find the feature in the call settings menu of the Phone app.

6. Expert RAW Integration in the Camera App

Expert RAW on Samsung flagship phones is a camera feature that allows professionals and aspiring photographers to get full control of the device's camera hardware.

It used to be a separate app, but with One UI 5.1, it now comes integrated directly into the main camera app so more people are likely to try it out. Find it in the More menu in the Camera app.

One UI 5.1 Adds the Features Users Requested

One UI 5.1 is a pretty minor update, but it's a good one nonetheless since it improves animations and stability, and adds the features that Samsung users specifically requested. Some of these features are admittedly copied from the iPhone, but that's not a complaint.

Go ahead and try them out on your Galaxy device!
