If you’ve used Google Chrome for any amount of time, then you’ll be plenty familiar with Chrome’s new tab page. It does the job, but it’s not particularly interesting. You can change a lot about Chrome’s new tab page by changing the themes, of which there are many.

But if you want to really expand on what you can achieve and push what’s possible with your new tab page, then extensions are the only way to do it. Here are seven of the best.

1. Earth View from Google Earth

First up on this list comes Earth View. As you might have been able to tell by the name, this extension comes from Google Earth to give you a completely new experience each and every time you open up your browser.

As you might guess, this changes your new tab page to a beautiful image from Google Earth whenever you open your browser.

This means that you’ll never be stuck with the same new page screen twice, and you’ll always be greeted with a breathtaking view whenever you start your day.

If you're really captivated by what you see, you can always explore Google Earth in a browser to try and find other gorgeous views.

2. Zest - New Tab

Next on this list is Zest. Zest is a new tab extension which aims to try and elevate the new tab experience.

At its core, Zest is a social bookmarking site, which means that it aims to try and give you high-quality marketing content that is relevant to you. This comes primarily in the form of articles for you to engage with, and if you find anything particularly interesting, you can then bookmark the article to come back to later.

Where Zest differs from other, similar, bookmarking sites is that Zest focuses on a community-based moderation process instead of anything else.

This ensures that the articles you find are the best of the best, and allow you to have confidence that what you’re reading is worth your time.

3. Tabby Cat

On a less serious note, Tabby Cat is the next entry onto this list. Tabby Cat is a new tab extension for Chrome that aims to bring a little bit of fun into your day-to-day browsing experience.

With Tabby Cat, every new tab will give you a different cat to interact with. The cats all blink, sleep, and you can pet them with your mouse if you so wish.

But what do they do? Well, in truth, not all that much. There’s a chance that your cats will bring you goodies, and some toys can attract other cats, but at the end of the day, it’s all just a bit of fun.

If you’re not a cat person, don’t stress, either. There are options for a ton of different animals for you to choose from, such as dogs, penguins, rabbits, and more.

4. CaretTab

If you’re looking for something completely customizable and to help you do more with your new tab page, then CaretTab is a great option to achieve all of that and more. Without using Tab Maker by Google to create extensions for the new tab page, this is about as much customization as you can get.

By default, CaretTab can provide you with clock, date, weather, and search widgets, among a range of other options. What’s great about CaretTab, though, is that no matter what it is you’re trying to get out of it, you can.

CaretTab is insanely customizable. If you want multiple clocks with different time zones, you can do that. If you want quick links to various web pages, you can do that. If you want to change the spacing between the numbers or even in the time, you can do that too.

No matter what it is that you’re trying to do, CaretTab lets you set up your new tab experience to be exactly how you want it.

5. Tab for a Cause

For those of you who are socially conscious and want to try and make a difference, Tab for a Cause is a great option.

As you might have guessed, Tab for a Cause completely transforms your new tab page into one that allows you to raise money for charity every time that you open it.

Tab for a Cause does this by showing you ads from a range of advertising partners right in your new tab page. Tab for a Cause then takes the revenue from these ads, and donates it on your behalf.

What’s great about this is that with Tab for a Cause, you can choose what charity you want to donate to. If you’re concerned with drinking water for underprivileged populations, then you can donate to a charity to combat that, if you’re interested in something else, that’s possible too.

Tab for a Cause is entirely open source, and its quarterly financial reports are all posted so that you can see exactly where the money that’s you’ve worked to raise is going at any point in time.

6. Workona Tab Manager

If you’re more concerned with your own productivity and keeping your work under control, then Workona is a great new tab extension that will let you accomplish more with your Chrome browser.

Workona is a new tab extension used to manage tabs, organize projects, and bring together your work all into one place.

This is done through what Workona calls workspaces. This effectively helps you to organize your browser by the project that you’re working on, so you can keep your current work open as tabs, and then save everything you need as resources for later.

Workona also features a built-in tab manager that helps with working in the cloud. You can use it to suspend tabs or rearrange them with ease, and Workona saves all tabs as you go.

There’s more that Workona lets you do as well, such as bookmarking tabs, accessing apps from your browser, and more.

7. Google Arts & Culture

Finally, we have Google Arts & Culture to round off this list. Whether you’re an art aficionado or just want to experience a little bit of beauty with your day, Google Arts & Culture is a great option.

As you might expect, Google Arts & Culture lets you discover beautiful artwork each time you open a new tab in Chrome.

You’ll see masterpieces from some of the greats, and more contemporary works as well. The artwork changes daily, though you can customize this in the settings if you wish.

Do More With Your New Tab

As you can see, the variety and breadth of different options that you can find with these extensions is quite impressive. No matter if you’re interested in seeing something beautiful each day, accomplishing more as you browse, or giving back to a cause, there’s a little something for everyone.
