4 Websites To Generate Names For Online Communities, Games & More

If you're a gamer, especially one who plays a healthy number of RPGs or fantasy games, you know how time-consuming it can be to pick a perfect, fitting name. Games that allow you to generate a random name within the application itself are great. That's a rare find. However, there are plenty of great websites that can help you come up with your own. In this post, I'd like to show a few of those to you.

4 Applications To Dim Your Screen & Keep You Focused [Windows]

If you work from a home computer, you probably know just how difficult it can be to stay on task and maintain your focus. The Internet is the busiest place on the planet. Every second, something is happening. It's tough to pull yourself away from all of that and stay focused. I've personally experienced this same problem, and still today I struggle with finding the perfect solution.

Just Manager - A Free & Portable Alternative To Windows Explorer

It doesn't matter if you're running XP, Vista, 7, or 8, there are glaring weaknesses to Windows Explorer that we've all got to deal with. Fortunately, third-party developers have us covered (as always). If you're turned away by Windows' search indexing or the clunky feel of the Windows Explorer interface, you have other options. File management can be made incredibly easier if you look into something other than what Windows offers by default.

3 Websites That Help Preserve Gaming Nostalgia

The games of today can't even be compared to my favorites from way back then, and I couldn't be happier that there are emulators and ROMs available that have managed to preserve them forever. More than just that though, the internet has managed to capture some nostalgic gaming memories in plenty of other ways. Let's check out how with the following three websites.

osu! - The Most Fun & Complete Rhythm Game You'll Find [MUO Gaming]

Looking back over this game today, I can't imagine what would have initially attracted me to osu!, because I've always been terrible with mouse-heavy games and I've never been a fan of J-pop or K-pop. That being said, I've somehow been addicted to this game since the first time I played it. If you've played Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, or any other game in that genre, you know that it feels completely different from any other gaming experience.

4 Cool Features That Make Opera a Browser Worth Checking Out

Though it's probably known best for it's presence in the mobile space, Opera's desktop browser has always had a good feel to it. It's very fast, responsive, renders well, and is packed with so many features that other browsers carelessly overlook and don't seem to consider. Let's appreciate Opera in this post and check out a few of those features.

Simeranya - A Complete Solution To Downloading Music & Video Off The Web [Windows]

There are a handful of ways to do it, but we're always looking for a more efficient and easier way to download content that we stream from websites online. You and every one of your friends probably already know a viable method of saving a local copy of your favorite music from YouTube. It's one of those tips that everyone on the internet passes around. It's almost to the equivalent of knowing how to dazzle up your old MySpace profile.

FeedRoller - One Of The Most Interesting Ways To Read Your RSS Feeds [Windows]

The grave has been dug for Google Reader. It's almost dead and gone, and I'll surely miss it. It definitely surprised me to hear that they were putting an end to this beloved service, but it didn't worry me. Savvy folks like you and I will always know of alternatives. You should see this as an opportunity, not a letdown. Maybe you'll find something new that you would have liked more than Google Reader all along.

ShareX Is One Of The Most Full-Featured Screenshot & Sharing Tools [Windows]

ZScreen and ZUploader have come together to form one of the most powerful and reliable solutions to sharing, mainly screenshots, but also nearly anything else you can think of. ShareX can upload more than screenshots. You can upload text, files, shorten URLs, and more. It's very versatile and offers a lot of new features to this niche of software.

Tinuous & Trimto Let You Process Images Faster Than Ever [Windows]

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a Photoshop wizard or anything even close to impressive when it comes to editing photos. Like everyone should though, I know the basics. I'm proud to say that I can set an image's transparency, crop, resize, and even convert between image file formats. It's not much to brag about, but it's required for the job. But what happens when you've got a whole folder full of images that need resized?

Pinger Desktop - The Best Desktop Texting Application [Mac OSX & Windows]

Over a year ago, I introduced MakeUseOf readers to Textfree. Since then, a lot has changed. I still use Textfree to this very day, and the entire application has been rebranded as Pinger. If you didn't get to read my article or don't know what Pinger or Textfree can do for you, it's a great way to send and receive free texts in the US, Canada, and 30 additional countries.

3 Desktop Color Picker Applications To Help You Pick The Perfect Shade

"Creative" is a word I'll never use to describe myself! Not visually, at least. I'm proud of much of what I can do on the Internet, but when it comes to graphics and image editing, you won't see me throwing out my two cents. However, I am very picky and a bit of a perfectionist. For years, I've been designing small websites and learning the basics of web design using CSS.

WizTree Can Help You Find What Is Hogging Your Disk Space [Windows]

Some users prefer visuals and need charts and graphs, or others need as much numerical data as possible, and then some of us just want the information on our screen as fast as we can get it. This post applies to those of you who prefer the latter! Let's take a look at one of the fastest disk space analysis tools out there. That software is WizTree.

 1
ochDownloader - A Small & Simple Downloader Manager

The average Internet user will probably handle nearly everything they download online through their web browser. Some browsers do it right - Opera's built-in download management is the best in the field. Others, not so much. Firefox, despite being one of my favorite browsers otherwise, is very weak in this area. It shouldn't matter though, because (in my opinion) the best way to handle your downloads is by using a third-party manager.

 1
PWGen - A Very Advanced Password Generator [Windows]

If you aren't using cryptographically-strong passwords by now, you're late. Trusting LastPass is not for everyone. No matter how much security software you have installed, a secure password is always going to be the foundation of basic online security and you've got to get used to it. A few years ago, I went through a phase where I spent several hours in a single day revising all of my passwords.

Windows System Control Center Adds Dozens Of Utility Tools To Your PC

Being a master of your system really means knowing what's available to you under the hood and how to get to it. Nothing is truer when using Windows, as there are a lot of configurations available to you that can be unlocked through the registry or by other means. Windows 7 "God Mode" is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Sysinterals and NirSoft are just as heaven-sent, being two names that will resonate beautifully with Windows enthusiasts like myself.

Setting Up An Email Client? Here Is Mail Server Info For The 3 Biggest Email Providers

Do you still use any desktop email clients? The last one that I ever made any significant use of was Outlook Express, and that feels like forever ago. Since then, I've given both Thunderbird and Postbox (which I was very impressed with) a spin, but desktop email clients in general seem like a lost cause to a Gmail user like myself. Nothing beats the Gmail web interface, in my opinion. My opinion isn't the law of the land though.

5 Resources To Make You A Better Path Of Exile Player [MUO Gaming]

In the middle of February, I dropped an article on you guys that introduced you to everything you ever wanted in Diablo III - all in another game. That game is Path of Exile, and since my article, the game has done nothing but grow increasingly more popular. I've played the game for about a month and, though I feel like it's a pretty bold statement to make this early, I truly feel like Path of Exile is one the best games I've ever played on the PC.

3 Applications To Supercharge The Character Map In Windows

When the Character Map becomes a staple of your work routine, you have two options: find some third-party application to more easily bring the characters to your fingertips, or memorize the Alt keystrokes for each character. Although I do know around 25 of those keystrokes off the top of my head, I'm going to show you three solutions to that first suggestion.

SlimBoat - A Newer Take On The Browser [Windows & Linux]

Once you've tried Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Safari, is there anything left? The browser is generally considered to be the most important part of your home PC experience. It's the vehicle that lets you stroll out into this wonderful Internet that we all know so well. Once you fall in love with a particular browser, it's very tough to be pulled away from it. I only recently made the transition from Firefox to Chrome, and many would say I'm a good year late on that.
