If you have trouble waking up in the morning, you're not alone. Not everyone is naturally built to be a morning person. Unfortunately, many people have to wake up early for work or school, and it's easy to hit snooze one too many times. If you want to make your mornings happier and more productive, there are a few apps that make waking up just a tiny bit easier and get your day started on the right track. Some will help you wake up with nonconventional methods, while others will help you fall asleep and make sure you're getting enough sleep to be well-rested the next day.

1. Alarmy

Anyone guilty of hitting snooze on their alarm way too many times needs Alarmy. This app makes you complete a task in order to shut off your alarm, so the chances of you staying awake are much higher. If you're one of those people who seem to snooze your alarm in your sleep, no more!

This alarm will keep blaring until you complete a math problem, do a short workout, or take a picture of something. Alarmy calls these tasks "missions," and the app separates missions into two sections: Wake Your Body and Wake Your Brain.

There are memory tests, typing assignments, and math problems ranging in difficulty to exercise your mind. Then, to wake up your body, you can set a goal for steps, squats, or phone shakes. Or you can even set up a QR code across your room that needs to be scanned to turn your alarm off. Test out all the wake-up methods Alarmy has to offer and select the one that works best for you.

2. Routinery

Having a routine in the morning is an awesome way to help your mind and body feel like the day has started productively. When you check off everything in your morning routine, you feel accomplished before you even get to work or school.

The Routinery app helps you construct a morning routine that fits your lifestyle, and reminds you to complete it. Creating a morning routine from scratch can be intimidating, so it's great that Routinery has examples of different morning routines. For those who want to start small, there's the "Start of a day" routine that has five simple tasks: drink water, shower, meditate, change clothes, and check the day's schedule.

Or, if you want a more involved morning routine, you could try out the "Lively morning" or "Self-development" routines, which incorporate small foreign language lessons, weightlifting, taking vitamins, stretches, washing dishes, and more.

If you don't like any of the pre-set options in Routinery, you're free to create your own morning routine from scratch. And if you fall in love with Routinery's morning routines, the app also has routines for productivity, evenings, health, relationships, and even copies of famous people's routines.

3. Sleep Cycle

Sometimes people have a hard time waking up in the morning if they got a bad night's sleep. The Sleep Cycle app helps you fall asleep quickly and monitors your sleep so it can wake you up at the perfect time. You can set the time you definitely want to be up by and Sleep Cycle will guess the best wake-up time for you within a half hour of your set time.

If you have trouble falling asleep, Sleep Cycle also has sleep aides to help you out. You can listen to a bedtime story, a sleep coaching session, spatial audio sounds, sleep meditations, ASMR sounds, ambient sounds, or musical playlists in different genres.

4. 7 Minute Workout

One of the best ways you can wake yourself up with a morning routine on your smartphone is with a workout. Although that might sound torturous to a lot of people, keep in mind that it doesn't have to be strenuous. As its name implies, the 7 Minute Workout app keeps workouts to a seven-minute maximum.

On the app's home screen, there are different core workouts to choose from based on which part of your body you want to work out. There's a classic workout for your whole body, as well as individual workouts for your arms, abs, legs, and butt. Then, there's also a seven-minute stretch you can do before getting in bed for a better night's sleep.

5. Spotify

Since Spotify is the world's largest music streaming platform, you likely already have it downloaded on your phone. But did you know that there are specific playlists out there for mornings? Some are fun and rambunctious, full of bubbly songs to wake you up, while others are full of calm, easygoing songs or podcasts to help you be more mindful in the morning.

If you don't like any of the pre-constructed playlists on Spotify, you can always create your own. Make sure to add songs that will improve your mood in the morning. Or, if you have a specific song you want to wake up to, check your phone's alarm clock settings because you might be able to set a song from Spotify as your alarm sound.

In addition to meditations, there are also podcasts you can listen to and courses you can take to improve your overall mindfulness. There's even a daily stretching practice if you prefer to move in the morning to wake up your body. While you do have to pay a yearly subscription fee for some features, there's a 7-day free trial to test them out and see if Calm is a good fit for you.

Mornings Don't Have to Be Horrible

Mornings can be enjoyable. Even if you're typically someone who wants to slap anyone who says "the early bird gets the worm" or talks to you before 10 a.m., you can still learn to love mornings. Some people love working out in the morning because it sets a productive mood for the rest of the day. Others love to sit in silence for a period in the morning, meditating or mentally planning for the day ahead.

You just have to figure out which morning routine works best for you and stick with it. And while you're still working out that perfect routine, there's always coffee.
