Many people got a free year of Apple TV+ with the purchase of an Apple product. That promotion was due to expire in November 2020, but was extended to February 2021.

Now, the offer has been extended again. Those eligible will now be able to watch Apple TV+ for free until July 2021.

Apple Extends TV+ Subscriptions for Free

When Apple TV+ launched in 2019, Apple were keen to hook as many people into its new streaming service as possible.

To help achieve that, the company gave a free annual subscription to Apple TV+ with purchase of eligible products like the iPhone and iPad.

If you took advantage of that deal at launch, your subscription was set to expire in November 2020. However, in October 2020, Apple extended those subscriptions until February 2021.

Now, as reported by 9to5Mac, Apple is extending that offer again. If your free trial was set to end between February and June 2021, it will now expire at the end of July instead.

This offer is also valid for those who paid for an annual subscription (rather than receiving it for free) that expires between those months.

Those on an active monthly plan that began before January 15 will receive $4.99 store credit for the period. This is also true for those who pay for the Apple One bundle subscription.

If you're uncertain as to your eligibility, don't worry. Apple will be sending emails in the coming weeks to notify those whom this applies to.

Why Is Apple Offering Free Apple TV+ Extensions?

When Apple first extended the free subscription period, it did so because it "knows everyone is still looking at a tough winter ahead filled with COVID-related restrictions".

For most, that situation hasn't changed. The coronavirus pandemic continues to be a global concern, with many Apple TV+ subscribers stuck inside and looking for entertainment.

While COVID-19 has been a boom for media streaming services, it has also slowed down production. Apple TV+ recently released second seasons of shows like Servant and Dickinson, but has been unable to release new episodes of some of its other launch titles like The Morning Show.

Extending subscriptions means that Apple can keep its users on the platform and entice them to not only watch the existing library, but also wait around for upcoming content; that includes Cherry starring Tom Holland, plus the second season of For All Mankind.

Despite its growing catalog, Apple TV+ is still barren compared to competitors like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Perhaps a third trial extension could be down the road?
