The release of iOS 14.5 brought a major update to the Clips app. Now, using this app, you can make your videos even more captivating by applying stunning augmented reality (AR) effects.

Turn Your Living Room Into a Night Club

Clips, a free video-making and editing app, now offers its users augmented reality effects called AR Spaces aimed to help you create unique videos.

The new effects can interact with your surroundings and provide room-filling effects. They can make your videos stand out by adding floating heart balloons around you, or by making real-looking confetti burst in your room.

The best thing about the AR Spaces effects is that they are not just simple video effects. They recognize that people are in the video and make it look as if the augmented reality objects are scattered all around the surroundings.

Clips users can choose from seven AR effects: prism, confetti, disco, dance floor, sparkles, stardust, and hearts. All of them come to life on the app thanks to the LiDAR Scanner.

According to a post on theApple Newsroom, this technology "measures light distance and uses pixel depth information of a scene to deliver faster and more realistic augmented reality (AR) experiences."

For even more captivating videos, you can use the new AR effects in combination with the animated stickers, text labels, and emojis. Moreover, the Clips app allows you to record the videos in all aspect ratios, making it possible to share them with your friends through any social media platform.

Devices That Support Clips' AR Effects

Clips 3.1 is available for download on the Apple Store. Anyone with an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 14.5, or an iPad running iPadOS 14.5, can download this video creation app.

However, you can't apply the AR features on all Apple devices. To use the AR Spaces effects, you need an iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max running on iOS 14.5. This feature is also available on the iPad Pro (4th and 5th generations).

Apple Is Working on More AR/VR Surprises

It's no secret that the Cupertino-based company is interested in experimenting with AR technologies. The AR Spaces effects added to the Clips app are definite proof of that.

Moreover, there have been rumors of the company working on augmented reality glasses and a virtual reality headset. And it is possible that the latter will arrive as early as next year.
