An Apple AirTag can be used to track pretty much anything you can think of.

But to do that, you might be wondering about the range of the AirTag tracking technology. We’ll take a look at the range of Apple’s AirTag in a number of situations.

What’s the AirTag Range?

The first step when locating your AirTag is to open the Find My app and select the Items tab. Bluetooth range is around 30 feet, depending on the conditions like wall thickness and more.

If you have an iPhone 11 or later model, you can use Precision Tracking. That is one of the best reasons you should buy an AirTag. Thanks to the special U1 chip in those handsets, you can receive directions to the AirTag location.

Choose the item and then tap Find Nearby. Follow the on-screen instructions until the iPhone connects to the AirTag. You’ll then see the distance and direction to the AirTag. To help you find the item, you can also choose Play Sound or turn on the flashlight to peer under couch cushions or somewhere else.

There are a number of fixes to try if Precision Finding doesn’t seem to be working.

With an older iPhone, when in Bluetooth range, you still have the option to play a sound on the AirTag. But there are no directions.

When your AirTag is out of Bluetooth range of your device, the Find My network takes over. Made up of hundreds of millions of Apple devices, the anonymous and encrypted network can help you find the location of the AirTag.

If the Find My network has located the AirTag, you’ll see its location on the map in the Find My app, You’ll also see an updated timestamp on when the AirTag was seen. From there, you can select Directions to see the route to the AirTag’s last-known location.

If for some reason, your AirTag can’t be found, you can select Notify When Found and receive a notification when the AirTag is found by the Find My network or your device.

Thanks to the proliferation of Apple devices, many users have been able to track an AirTag location around the world.

Using An AirTag to Find Your Items

As you can see, thanks to Apple’s Find My network, the AirTag range is almost anywhere on Earth with an Internet connection.

And when your item is closer, the Bluetooth connection and Precision Tracking can make finding your stuff easy.
