Why am I missing text I “copied” on my iPhone?

danielle March 18, 2013

I use the list app on my iPhone quite often. On one list I had all of my pass words for emails, bills, etc. & one day I decided to “copy” it. Does anyone know where I can find this copy because I think I deleted the list my accident & I am list without these pass words!!! Thanks!!!

If you're using the built-in notes app, or the built-in reminders app, the data for both of these should be in your iPhone backup. This article I wrote may help you see if you have a backup:

Also, you can try pressing the button in the top-left corner of the Reminders app, to show all of your lists. It's possible that the list you're looking for just wasn't the one visible :)

First of all , you must clarify witch app you used for your lists . If you have done it with the native notes app , i'm sorry but you lost yous Pass List for good. If you have used some other app , a good idea is to connect your iphone to pc , open itunes , go to apps tab go to the bottom where app who can share content are shown. If your app is listed there , click it and if you are lucky on the right column you will see the possible copies

You simply copied the info from within the app to the phone's clipboard, using the built in select, and copy commands? Or do you mean "copy" in some other way?

If you copied to the clipboard and did NOT immediately paste it somewhere else and save it, if you have since re-started the phone, that info is gone forever.

Assuming you do not have this info on a cloud service like iCloud that you can restore from, the next thing to try would be restoring a backup of your iPhone from your computer. You do that in iTunes, or from iCloud.

Info on how to do both is here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766

Your info from your lists app should be in one of those backups, if you had your phone configured to do regular backups. Hoping you did!

Also, don't store passwords and other valuable data in this way on your phone. It's too easy to lose it or have it stolen. Use 1Password or another good password manager to store these, and sync them so you can always get them no matter what, while keeping them secure.

You may have 'cut' the password accidentally instead of copy it. As for locating a place for where you have your notes saved, my best guess would be on http://www.iCloud.com. Log in with your Apple ID and password and look in the notes section. if it is not there, I'm not sure there is much you can do to bring back the list. Perhaps the Geniuses at the Apple Store may be able to bring back your list. Perhaps you could ask them about restoring from a previously created backup on iTunes (more info can be found here- http://ipod.about.com/od/iphonetroubleshooting/ss/restore-iphone.htm).

However, for future use, I'd recommend using a more systematic way of storing your passwords securely (http://www.everpassword.com). This is a cross-platform, cross-device app that will securely store your passwords.
