What are the best sites for free ebooks?

Are there any sites out there akin to a library i.e. low membership costs for borrowing ebooks?

    you can try your local library and you can them online for free and they are legal.

    http://bookboon.com/ is a great place to find free e-books. They cover a wide range of subjects and can be downloaded directly in PDF format.

    That depends on what kind of eBooks you're looking for. Most of what I read lately, I've been getting from either http://archive.org or http://gutenberg.org .

    Google. Yes, with a simple directive on google, you can get as many ebooks as you like. Just use filetype:pdf before your search and google returns only those files which are in pdf format. Most of them are downloadable and free.

    You might have a Virtual Library for your state. Ask you local library if they are connected. You have to have a library card to sign in. You can check out ebooks, audio books, and music.

    Amazon is very good , as well as the Barnes and noble website , bn.com . Also as someone else said your local library . At least at mine you can borrow ebooks online and I am sure many more will do this in the future .

    on Hundred zeor you can find ebooks for zero dollars and collection of ebooks that you can read on your computer, your mobile device, your Kindle or inside the web browser itself sans any software.
    you can find ebooks on topics like Romance,cooking,Technology,computers.

    Dunno about lending system, but try ProjectGutenberg and Hundred Zeros for free ebook.How about World Public Library?

    WattPad is totally free and a huge resource for free e-books. They also have android and iOS app to access the resource from your smartphone / tablet. Refer to http://www.wattpad.com/

    There are a few websites to borrow ebooks. lendle.com is one. i don't remember others.

    epubbud.com has free ebooks, however, you need to understand that there is for intents and purposes "stolen" material on that site. epubbud also has some legal stuff on it but watch what you are downloading. The best free all legal site I have used is http://www.getfreeebooks.com/.

    Have you checked your local public library?

    Here in Ottawa where I live, the public library lends Ebooks @ no cost!
