Can a USB wireless adapter be used instead of a wireless network card? I have a Linksys Wireless G broadband router (model WRT54G) and we are buying a new computer.

Would a USB wireless adapter be compatible with this router?

Yes, any usb wireless adapter would work, but you would get better range getting one that is also 802-11 g ( or simply G)

Any wireless card, PCI or USB, will work, routers do not care what type of wireless card is connecting to them.
